How are regulations and scientific advances changing impact measurement?

With the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulations and ongoing developments in the EU Sustainable Finance Taxonomy, impact measurement has emerged as the question of the moment. In this session, we explore the topic of impact measurement from both the regulatory and scientific angle, discussing how impact measurement is likely to change in the current policy environment and how advances in life cycle assessment and environmental and social impact assessment in general can be applied to sustainable finance.

Speakers:

  • Prof. Dr. Marzia Traverso is full professor and head of the Institute of Sustainability in Civil Engineering at RWTH Aachen University. She is an environmental engineer working in the field of life cycle assessment and sustainability performance of the building and transport sectors. She is also Rapparteur of the Technical Working Group of the European Commission’s Platform on Sustainable Finance, as well as convenor and project leader of the ISO 14075 on social life cycle assessment.
  • Dr. Ben Allen is Research Director of the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP). He has a PhD in the field of land use and spatial ecology. At IEEP, Ben has led and contributed to a range of projects related to land use, bioenergy and agriculture. He has played an integral role in developing the institute’s thinking on EU bioenergy and biofuels policy from a land-use perspective, with links to the wider bio-economy in a European and global context.
  • Dr. Claudia Hitaj (moderator) is a research associate at the Luxembourg Institute of Science & Technology in the Life-Cycle Sustainability Assessment group. An environmental economist by training, her research focuses on sustainable finance, carbon footprinting, and energy economics.
